My Skiing trips to Are, Sweden |
|
I have been fortunate enough to visit this Ski resort in 2003, 2004 and 2005 and go Ski Karting down the Swedish mountains with the 'Back-up Trust' These have easily been the best weeks I have ever had since my accident and I still can't believe I am able to do it. The freedom and exhilaration have to be experienced to be believed. My second trip was as a 'Group Leader' for Back-Up and I feel very honoured to have been asked to undertake what is a very important role in the week's success. |

Are is Sweden's number one ski resort,
situated in the North of Sweden. Are consists of four separate ski areas
and villages, which are partly interlinked and covered by one lift pass. The scenery is breathtaking, low sweeping mountains covered with pine forests, and the skiing is suited to all levels, plus there are a good range of activities for the non-skier. Beginners are well catered for with some gently rolling slopes at Duved and gentle runs at Bjornen. The tuition is excellent and all the instructors speak English. Intermediates have a great range of runs and areas to chose from, with the Are ski area offering the most challenging terrain. Advanced skiers will find some steep challenging runs, including the famous World Cup run, plus some great off-piste to be explored with a guide. There is a dedicated snowboard park, which is floodlit in the evenings, plus benches at the top of many of the lifts to accommodate snowboarders. Cross-country skiers are spoilt with 70 kilmotres of piste. |
